Technique: Divide left to right

Step-by-step

Step 1: Take the first digit(s) that the divisor fits into.

Step 2: Divide, write the quotient digit, note the remainder.

Step 3: Bring down the next digit, repeat until done.

Examples

• 679 ÷ 7 → 7 into 67 = 9 r4, bring down 9 → 49÷7 = 7. Answer: 97
• 432 ÷ 8 → 8 into 43 = 5 r3, bring down 2 → 32÷8 = 4. Answer: 54
• 504 ÷ 6 → 6 into 50 = 8 r2, bring down 4 → 24÷6 = 4. Answer: 84
• 1728 ÷ 9 → 9 into 17 = 1 r8, 82÷9 = 9 r1, 18÷9 = 2. Answer: 192
